Stephen Lashley, MA

LPC Candidate

Philosophy
Stephen believes therapy transforms lives by offering a safe, empowering relationship where people can process their experiences and develop skills that carry into everyday life.

We begin therapy by exploring a couple of foundational questions: “What would I like to be different about my life?” and “What obstacles are getting in the way of the life I want?” You may already hold the answers to these questions, even if they are not yet easy to name. Stephen's role is to build a trusting, supportive relationship with you, explore your experiences together, and help you move toward the life you want to live.

Every person is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Stephen uses an integrative approach that draws from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Existential Therapy. Stephen tailors his therapeutic approach to each client, and as therapy progresses, his hope is to empower you to advocate for what works best for your goals and needs. You are the expert of your life, and Stephen's role is to walk with you in this process.

Education
Stephen earned his MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. He completed his clinical internship at Pivot: A Turning Point for Youth in Oklahoma City in 2025. At Pivot, he enjoyed working with a diverse clientele tailoring his therapeutic approach to the unique needs of each client.

In addition to his training as a therapist, Stephen holds a Master of Divinity from Southern Methodist University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University. He uses his wide ranging educational experience as lenses through which he views each client’s psychological, spiritual, and practical needs.

Professional Experience
Stephen is an active ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and has served as a senior pastor in churches in North Texas, Norman, and Oklahoma City. This role has given him the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with people from a wide range of cultural, racial, socioeconomic, religious, sexual orientation, gender identity, and spiritual experiences. In this role, he has extensive experience working with people who are deconstructing and healing from religious trauma.

While Stephen’s work informs his values of compassion, justice, and care, therapy with Stephen is never about religion unless a client requests to bring spirituality into the work. He welcomes clients of all belief systems, identities, and life experiences and approaches therapy with curiosity, humility, and respect. He is committed to providing an affirming, trauma-informed, and ethically grounded therapeutic space where all people are respected and honored.

Rates and Insurance
Stephen’s standard rate is $85 per 50-minute session. He is an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma.
