Philosophy
David’s philosophy is we are trying to do the best we can with what is in front of us. Yet, with everything going on in life, that is not always easy. David believes often problems and challenges are not just “all in our heads.” Our struggles are frequently affected by the world around us and the painful, unexpected problems in living we face. David believes in creating a confidential, empathetic, and genuine relationship with clients where they feel they can express themselves and be understood, not judged. To David, being a counselor means supporting and challenging clients as they explore and grow. Using a primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approach to counseling, David helps clients to better connect with themselves, others, and their values goals. This includes working toward being more realistic, flexible, present, and purposeful in our lives.
Education
David is an Oklahoma Licensed Professional Counselor (#5934) and Oklahoma Board Approved Clinical Supervisor. His education includes a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands, an MEd in Applied Behavioral Studies from Oklahoma City University, and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Oklahoma.
Professional Experience & Memberships
David has experience counseling within mental health agencies, community mental health centers, and inpatient hospitals since entering the profession in 2013. David is also part of the core faculty in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. David’s primary areas of focus and clinical experience are emotional distress, trauma, grief, relationship/family issues, attachment, insecurities, suicidality, self-harm, severe mental illness, diversity and inclusion, matters of identity and gender, and substance use. David is a member of the American Counseling Association and Oklahoma Counseling Association.
Rates and Insurance
